Help - I am a new 36.7 owner of a 2002 boat. The toilet will no longer suck water into the toilet when i flip the lever over for a wet flush! It will still pump out, if i manually pour water into the bowl.

I assume that the clean water into the bowl comes from the lake and i simply don't have to fill a tank with water to flush the toilet?

Thanks - jeff

time for a rebuild kit.

one thing I noticed on mine was that if you tighten down the top too hard (six screws) it warps the complicated rubber part so that the flap with the metal weight is warped up and wont seal. You can try some grease in there and don't tighten very hard.

but if the inner parts are more than 3 years old, its probably time to spring for a full rebuild ($50)

Yeap, it is the top rubber part with the weights causing this problem - just replaced mine and it is fixed. You can buy that part by itself as opposed to the whole kit. Get a Raritan C253 joker valve to stop the backflow from the holding tank - I went through several Jabsco ones but they always leaked.

they (the gaskets) dry out, they suffer from disuse and dehumidifiers
we tried Claudio's fix...works like a charm.

It's like you guys are reading my mind!! I was just going to post a question about backflow in the bowl, and here is the answer apparently.

Still, not looking forward to the job. I swapped in a nice 25 gal. holding tank after our first season, so I'm familiar with the plumbing.

Thanks,
-Larry

It's not too messy if you flush a bunch of clean water through first, since the hose enters tank at top you only get back flow when heeled. and it's easy to clean the head since you can pump it out the shower drain.

I had organized some time to take apart the toilet, then get the kit to replace the unti....anyway, i think is was a weed stuck in the clean water through hull. I went over there and the toilet just started working! It doesn't often happen that if you ignore a problem...it fixes itself.

Thanks again - Jeff

tell us all about the holding tank -- like the part number! I've been needing to do this for a while

Just remember the #1 rule they teach apprentice plumbers and you will be fine.... "don't bite your fingernails!". LOL

The Jabsco Service Kit Part # is 29045-2000 includes the joker valve and the rubber thingie with the weights on it and several other parts. Just replaced ours, and I will be ordering a spare to have onboard, there's nothing worse than a head problem on a boat!

Has anyone changed the Jabsco toilet out for a different (higher quality) brand. I'm so sick of the back flow and replacing parts on the Jabsco....you can almost buy a new head for the cost of the rebuild kits.

There is a related topic "holding tank" page 5 that is in Gear Chat section where Claudio Martin references a raritan joker valve as a suitable replacement.

Actually I just do that - throw out the entire toilet every couple years and put in a new one.
